Moving from a large city to a small town on the north coast of New South Wales 9 years ago and from there to an abandoned 200 acre farm at the end of a long valley 3 years ago was both instinctual and challenging.

An ex city dweller doesn't mind the driving. It's funny how the rural folk often do mind. When I think back to an hour's drive from home to work when I lived in Melbourne, the hour's drive out of the valley is magic.

The fences along the valley have fascinated me these 3 years. At once indicative of human possessiveness and the passage of time, nature runs us through her course and time etches its mark.

The river and creek crossings on the drive usually provide fleeting glimpses of beauty - until one stops the car and takes the time to let that beauty unfold.

One winter's morning I got up early to take these photographs, having seen the subject matter many times before.

It was a frosty morning; the sun was yet to enter the valley as I left Cook Creek. I knew the places to wait for the light and the mist to meet each other...and I waited for their magic.
