My creative career started in my late teens when I won the 1981 Fellowship of Australian Writers' Young Poet's Award. I graduated as a doctor in Melbourne in 1987 and continued to write and be involved in performance poetry for the next decade. During my specialist studies in psychiatry my creative path took a turn toward the visual arts.
